Stefan Kaegi
(Rimini Protokoll)
Rimini
Protokoll are Helgard Haug, Stefan Kaegi and Daniel Wetzel. The german and
swiss theatre sientists are working within and with reality to provoke that
it severely mixes up with fiction. They are using the tools of research and
fieldwork but somehow the themes turn always out in a strange way. First they
worked together on the documentary play "Kreuzworträtsel Boxenstopp",
with four 80year-old ladies about their medical technologies and biographies
of formula-1-pilots. In 2002 they were collaborating with 230 ready-made-performers
to copy an entire session of the german Bundestag in> the Festival "Theater
der Welt" in Bonn, and were transforming an office in the tenth floor of Hannover
into a surveilance audience space. For the Kunsten Festival des Arts, Brussels,
they reconstructed the belgian company Sabena with six of the 14.000 now unemployed
after the bankrupcy. In Vienna they staged the representation of Austria abroud
with 10 diplomats. In march 2006 they premiere their next work in Schauspielhaus
Zürich.
Press Quote:
"If Disneyland exists in order to make the rest of the world seem only more real, then this real world exists in order to be put on stage - this paraphrase of Baudrillard could become the credo of Rimini Protokoll. Rimini Protokoll is the cover name for three city guerrillas who want to change the world, at least temporarily and preferably in secret. They smuggle art, not bombs, into reality and observe the audience as it watches the explosion: it is considered successful if the fine line between "true" and "manipulated" can no longer be discerned."
